Whoever thought of Murus Sanctus as the only team capable to win the final of the 11th French Open, must have forgotten that Polo de Deauville had been able to beat the Parisian team in a qualifying game with 9 ½ to 8. Actually, nothing had seemed evident to Corinne Ricard and her terrific Argentineans, despite a favourable start of the match with two goals, one of which was a penalty by the phenomenal Facundo Sola (most valuable player of the game) during the first period, followed by a second realization at the beginning of the second period.
But Dario Musso animated his team, Polo de Deauville, by putting a penalty between the two goalposts and at the end of the second chukka his team got ahead. From then on, the match developed into some sort of life-or-death-struggle between the two best teams of this Open. Even though Marcos Mocorora failed three penalties at 60 yards that could have made a big difference in the final result, the players fought over every shot in the match.
In spite of an injured right wrist, Dario Musso was able to transform a spectacular penalty from the middle of the field, but Matias Benoit scored the goal that brought about the victory for his team. Dario Musso had the chance to change the score into a favourable one for his team a few seconds before the end, but the penalty at 60 yards did not turn into a goal. It was a beautiful final match with many twists to it, with an amazing winning team and - despite the unfavourable weather conditions – a great audience. Although it was a final in the rain, but that did not disturb the players at all as the grounds were of good quality. Besides, players like Facundo Sola should have the habit of playing under such meteorological conditions: He won the Queen’s Cup in England (with another French team) when the weather was similar to that in Chantilly. The Argentinean ace appreciated the high standard of this 11th French Open and promised to come back next year.

Mais Dario Musso, sur pénalité, a sonné le réveil de Deauville qui prenait l’avantage en fin de seconde période. Puis le match devint un duel à couteaux tirés entre les deux meilleures équipes de cet Open. Les joueurs se rendaient coup pour coup, même si Marcos Mocorora (Deauville) manquait trois pénalités à 60 yards qui auraient pu faire la différence au bilan final.
Blessé au poignet droit, Dario a néanmoins transformé une spectaculaire pénalité depuis la moitié du terrain mais Matias Benoit, après une prodigieuse descente de Facundo Sola (meilleur joueur du tournoi), inscrivait le goal de la victoire. Dario Musso a bien eu la possibilité de renverser une fois de plus la situation à quelques secondes de la fin avec une pénalité à 60 yards qu’il n’a pas pu transformer. On l’aura compris, ce fut une belle finale, riche en rebondissements avec un beau vainqueur et devant un bon public malgré les conditions météorologiques. Finale sous la pluie, certes, mais qui n’a pas perturbé les joueurs tant le terrain était de bonne facture comme le soulignaient les joueurs. Et Facundo Sola n’est-il pas habitué à ces finales sous la pluie, lui qui a remporté la Queen’s Cup en Angleterre (avec une autre équipe française) dans des conditions similaires ? En tout cas le crack argentin a apprécié le haut niveau sportif de cet 11e Open de France et a promis de revenir l’an prochain.

On s’attendait à un cavalier seul de Murus Sanctus pour cette finale du 11e Open de France, c’était oublier que Polo de Deauville a été la seule la seule équipe à avoir été capable de battre l’équipe parisienne en match de poule (9 ½ à 8). Et de fait, rien n’a été évident pour Corinne Ricard et ses redoutables Argentins malgré une entame de match favorable avec deux goals, dont une pénalité du phénoménal Facundo Sola, en première période suivis d’une autre réalisation en début de seconde période.
